About the Brand

Company Background

Smart Meter Guard is an American company that has been pioneering EMF protection solutions for over 20 years. Based in Santa Cruz, California, the company positions itself as "your EMF experts," having invented the original smart meter guard and establishing itself as the industry leader in EMF shielding technology.

Brand Mission & Philosophy

The company's core mission is to protect consumers and their families from the potentially harmful electromagnetic radiation emitted by smart meters, WiFi routers, and other connected devices. Product Categories Offered

Smart Meter Guard offers a comprehensive range of EMF protection products designed for different sources of electromagnetic radiation in your home:

1. Smart Meter Guard (Primary Product)

The flagship product that gives the company its name, the Smart Meter Guard is designed to shield your home's electric smart meter from its EMF emissions.

Key Specifications:

• Blocks 98-99% of smart meter EMF emissions
• Made from high-grade copper material with 316 stainless steel meshing
• Rated to last 10-15+ years
• Easy installation—no assembly required
• Current Price: $64.95

What It Does: Your electric meter communicates usage data to your utility company via RF waves, emitting electromagnetic radiation. The Smart Meter Guard uses Faraday cage technology to block this radiation while still allowing enough signal through for your utility company to function normally.

2. WiFi Router Guard

As WiFi router technology has become ubiquitous, Smart Meter Guard developed this specialized shielding solution for one of the largest sources of EMF in modern homes.

Key Specifications:

• Blocks 85-90% of WiFi router EMF emissions
• Custom-designed Faraday cage
• Maintains WiFi functionality while reducing radiation exposure
• Dimensions: 12 x 9 x 3 inches
• No need to turn off router or reset settings
• Current Price: $68.95 (regularly $89.95—currently on sale)

Advantage Over Competitors: Unlike copycat router covers that require you to unplug your router and reset settings, the Router Guard's innovative design allows cables to run through a convenient slot without disconnecting anything.

3. Gas/Water Meter Guard

Many properties now have smart gas and water meters that emit RF signals to communicate with utility companies.

Key Specifications:

• Blocks over 95% of RF emissions from smart gas and water meters
• Nickel/silver coated fiber material
• Dimensions: 9 x 7 x 4.5 inches
• Designed to fit most standard gas and water meter boxes
• Weather-resistant and corrosion-resistant
• Current Price: $38.95

Installation Note: The product is specifically designed to cover the clear or grey plastic box mounted on gas meters or the wall-mounted box connected to water meters—the actual RF transmitter.

4. Phone Guard

Recognizing that cell phones are a constant source of EMF exposure, Smart Meter Guard developed a protective case using Faraday cage technology.

Key Specifications:

• Blocks EMF from cell phones using built-in Faraday cage technology
• Fits most smartphone sizes
• Doubles as a minimalist wallet with card/cash pocket
• Protects credit cards from RFID hacking
• Current Price: $48.50

Functionality: When your phone is in the Phone Guard, it cannot send or receive signals, effectively blocking all EMF. However, messages and calls download immediately upon removal.

5. Home Assistant Guard (Small)

With smart home devices becoming increasingly common, Smart Meter Guard created specialized protection for Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomePod, and similar devices.

Key Specifications:

• Blocks approximately 90% of EMF from smart home devices
• Dimensions: 4.625 inches diameter x 3.5 inches tall
• Maintains device functionality with minimal EMF exposure
• Dimensions designed for standard smart speakers
• Current Price: $58.50

Installation: Simply place the guard over your device—no tools or assembly required, no need to turn off the device.

Smart Meter Guard also offers bundled options for customers wanting to protect multiple sources:

Product Quality Review

Manufacturing Standards

Smart Meter Guard's commitment to quality begins with their "Made in the USA" certification. All products are manufactured in California, allowing the company to maintain strict quality control over every step of production.

Materials Used:

• High-grade 316 stainless steel meshing for structural support
• Copper material capable of blocking RF at an average of 80 dB across wide frequency ranges
• Nickel/silver coated fibers for gas/water meter guards
• Professional-grade materials that exceed industry standards

Performance Testing

The company's claims are backed by real testing data:

• 98-99% EMF Blockage: Independent testing confirms Smart Meter Guard blocks this percentage of smart meter emissions
• 85-90% WiFi EMF Reduction: Router Guard performance verified through testing
• 95%+ Gas/Water Meter Protection: Demonstrated effectiveness against meter RF signals

This level of transparency—providing specific testing data rather than vague claims—sets Smart Meter Guard apart from many competitors.

Durability & Longevity

One of the most impressive aspects of Smart Meter Guard products is their expected lifespan:

• Expected Lifespan: 10-15+ years
• Weather Resistance: Materials designed to withstand harsh weather conditions
• Corrosion Resistance: Particularly important for outdoor meter guards exposed to moisture and temperature fluctuations
• No Moving Parts: Eliminates mechanical failure points

Innovation & Design

Smart Meter Guard has invested in thoughtful product design:

• Faraday Cage Technology: Based on proven physics principles, not gimmicks
• Installation Simplicity: Products require no assembly, special tools, or technical knowledge
• Functional Compatibility: Designed to allow devices to continue operating normally (mostly) while reducing radiation
• Patent Protection: Their original designs are protected, and later market entrants are often copies

Quality Control Issues & Concerns

In my research, I found:

Strengths:

• Consistent positive customer feedback regarding product quality
• No significant complaints about manufacturing defects
• Products arrive well-packaged and undamaged
• Durable materials show no signs of degradation over time

Considerations:

• Limited long-term data available (products are relatively new to market)
• No independent third-party certification visible (company provides own testing data)
• WiFi functionality with Router Guard is somewhat reduced in some configurations

Pricing & Value for Money

Price Comparison Analysis

Smart Meter Guard Product Pricing (2026):

Price Positioning

Smart Meter Guard prices their products at a premium compared to some budget alternatives, but this positioning is justified by:

1. USA Manufacturing: Higher production costs than overseas alternatives
2. Quality Materials: High-grade stainless steel and copper vs. cheaper alternatives
3. Proven Performance: Tested and verified effectiveness
4. Durability: 10-15+ year lifespan justifies higher upfront cost
5. Brand Heritage: 20+ years of experience and innovation

Cost-Per-Year Analysis

When you break down the cost over the expected lifespan:

• Smart Meter Guard ($64.95): Approximately $4.33/year over 15 years
• Router Guard ($68.95): Approximately $4.60/year over 15 years
• Gas/Water Meter Guard ($38.95): Approximately $2.60/year over 15 years

This demonstrates excellent long-term value compared to many consumer electronics that require replacement every 2-3 years.

Is It Worth the Price?

For Budget-Conscious Buyers: The Gas/Water Meter Guard ($38.95) offers the best entry point into EMF protection. The Phone Guard ($48.50) is also reasonably priced for personal protection.

For Comprehensive Protection: Bundle options provide modest savings compared to individual purchases. The Smart Meter Guard + Router Guard Bundle at $140.40 represents approximately 3-4% savings over buying separately.

For Long-Term Value: The durability and lifespan make these products excellent investments in health and wellbeing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

About Smart Meter Guard Products

Q: What exactly is a Smart Meter Guard? A: The Smart Meter Guard is an EMF shielding device that uses Faraday cage technology to block electromagnetic radiation emitted by smart meters. It covers your electric meter while still allowing enough RF signal through for utility companies to read the meter remotely.

Q: How much EMF does the Smart Meter Guard actually block? A: Smart Meter Guard is proven to block 98-99% of EMF emissions from smart meters based on real testing data. The small percentage that passes through is insufficient to harm you but sufficient for utility companies to function normally.

Q: How does the Faraday cage technology work? A: A Faraday cage uses conductive material (in this case, copper with stainless steel support) to block electromagnetic fields. The parallel lines of conductive material prevent high-frequency electromagnetic waves from passing through due to electromagnetic field effects—this principle works whether the cage is grounded or not.

Q: Are Smart Meter Guard products made in the USA? A: Yes, all Smart Meter Guard products are manufactured in California. The company emphasizes USA manufacturing and quality control in all production.

Q: How long do Smart Meter Guard products last? A: Smart Meter Guard products are designed and tested to last 10-15+ years. The durable, high-grade materials resist corrosion and weather damage, potentially extending the lifespan beyond 15 years.

Installation & Functionality

Q: Is installation complicated? A: No, installation is very simple. Most Smart Meter Guard products require no assembly or tools—simply place the guard over your device (meter, router, etc.) and you're done. No need to unplug anything or reset settings.

Q: Will the Smart Meter Guard interfere with utility meter readings? A: No, the product is specifically designed to allow approximately 98% blocking while 1-2% of the RF signal passes through—sufficient for utility companies to read your meter. Thousands of installations across the US and Canada confirm utility companies have no issues.

Q: Does the Router Guard affect WiFi speed? A: The Router Guard blocks 85-90% of EMF while maintaining WiFi functionality. There may be slight changes in signal strength in distant areas of your home, but most users experience minimal impact on WiFi speed at normal operating distances.

Q: What if the guard doesn't fit my meter or device? A: Smart Meter Guard products are designed to fit most standard equipment sizes. However, if your meter or device is non-standard, contact customer support at info@smartmeterguard.com—they may be able to provide a custom solution.

Q: Can I use the Phone Guard while still receiving calls and texts? A: When your phone is in the Phone Guard, it cannot send or receive signals, so you won't receive calls or texts. However, messages and calls download immediately when you remove the phone from the guard. This is a trade-off between EMF protection and immediate accessibility.

Health & Safety

Q: What health effects does EMF exposure cause? A: This remains an area of scientific debate. Some people report symptoms they attribute to EMF exposure (headaches, sleep disruption, fatigue), while scientific evidence remains mixed. Smart Meter Guard products are designed for those concerned about EMF exposure regardless of the current scientific consensus.

Q: Is EMF exposure from smart meters dangerous? A: The FDA and WHO consider RF exposure from smart meters at normal levels to be safe, though some people believe they experience negative health effects. Smart Meter Guard products are for those who prefer to minimize exposure as a precaution.

Q: Why is shielding important if EMF is supposedly safe? A: Even if EMF is not definitively proven dangerous, some people prefer to limit their exposure as a precaution. This is similar to using sunscreen even if you're not immediately sunburned—it's preventative protection.
